Mounier first through Panathinaikos exit door

Anthony Mounier, who had not featured for Panathinaikos in the current season, has officially left the Athenian club as he moves to Panetolikos as a free agent.

On Thursday, Panathinaikos released this following statement:

“Panathinaikos FC announces the termination of its contract with Anthony Mounier. The French midfielder joined our club in August 2017, subsequently scoring five goals in 35 appearances. We wish him every success in his career.”

Mounier, 32, competed in 30 Super League matches for Panathinaikos after joining from Bologna in the summer of 2017, registering three goals and one assist.

The Frenchman is now set to join Panetolikos. At the moment, Panetolikos are rock bottom of the Super League, having only registered a mere five points in 15 games.

MORE DEPARTURES POSSIBLE

Mounier is the first, but certainly not the last, Panathinaikos player to leave in the winter.

According to various reports, Vangelis Oikonomou is sure to depart the Athens-based club in January, and the defender will be joined through the exit door by Yohan Mollo, Panagiotis Armenakas, Fausto Tienza and Uffe Bech. Mollo, Tienza and Bech all joined Panathinaikos in the off-season, however, they’ve failed to make any kind of impact.

Mollo, in particular, has been a huge disappointment, clashing with head coach Giorgos Donis on a regular basis and not showing his potential on the pitch. His only positive moment with the Prasini was his equalising goal against Olympiacos at the Olympic Stadium.
