This following statement was released by Volos on Tuesday:

“Volos NFC announces the signing of 30-year-old midfielder Sotiris Ninis, who is already training with the team in pre-season.

“Sotiris Ninis performed excellently with Panathinaikos before moving to Parma. That was followed by stints at PAOK, Charleroi, Mechelen, Maccabi Petah Tikva and Hapoel Ashkelon.

“Furthermore, Sotiris Ninis has made 33 appearances for our senior national team.”

Ninis had been without a club since leaving Hapoel Ashkelon in the summer of 2019.

At the start of his eventful career, the attacking midfielder was heralded as a potential superstar of Greek football, but he subsequently rapidly lost his way after transferring to Parma from Panathinaikos in 2012. Several injury issues prevented Ninis from getting back on track as he endured forgettable stints at PAOK, Charleroi, Mechelen, Maccabi Petah Tikva and Hapoel Ashkelon. The 30-year-old did also return to Panathinaikos from 2014 to 2016.

His new team, Volos, finished in 11th place of the 2019/2020 Super League season.
