In fantastic form with Pedro Martins at the helm, Olympiacos ran away with the Super League regular season, remaining unbeaten in 26 games to boast a healthy 14-point lead over second-placed PAOK, who were deducted seven points for their involvement in a multi-ownership scandal with Xanthi. AEK are just one point behind PAOK in third position, while Xanthi, Panetolikos and Panionios are all battling for survival.

Originally, the playoffs and playouts were due to begin in March, but they were indefinitely postponed as a result of the coronavirus pandemic. The latest reports have suggested that they will begin in June.

In the meantime, let’s take a look at some of the numbers to emerge from the regular season:

  • Six goalkeepers saved at least one penalty, with Panagiotis Tsintotas (AEK), Jeremy Malherbe (Panionios), Jose Sa (Olympiacos), Dimitris Sotiriou (OFI), Carlos Abad (Xanthi), and Ogmundur Kristinsson (AEL) all stopping spot-kicks. The latter two saved two penalties each;

  • Three hat-tricks were witnessed, as Nelson Oliveira (AEK), Youssef El Arabi (Olympiacos), and Radomir Milosavljevic (AEL) were the trio of players to bag three goals in one particular match;

  • With 12 draws, Lamia tied more games than anyone else in the championship, while OFI claimed the lowest amount with four draws on the board;

  • There were 14 different scorelines witnessed in the 2019/2020 Super League, with 1-0 appearing 39 times. 0-0 was seen on 17 occasions;

  • AEK and Panathinaikos both once used the Georgios Kamaras Stadium as their home ground when the pitch of the Olympic Stadium was being replaced;

  • 24 Greek and 13 foreign referees worked over Super League games;

  • Olympiacos boasted the best defence with only nine goals conceded, but Panionios contrived to let in 45 markers;

  • At the same time, Olympiacos finished the regular season as the top scorers with 53 goals, while Panionios were the least productive team with 16 markers of their own;

  • Xanthi and Panetolikos did not score in the first 15 minutes of any league match;

  • Only Youssef El Arabi (17), Federico Macheda (12), Karol Swiderski (10), and Jeronimo Barrales (10) scored a minimum of 10 goals;
