Oenning extends Aris contract

Aris head coach, Michael Oenning, has penned a new 1+1 contract with the Thessaloniki-based organisation.

This following statement was released by Aris on Thursday:

“The head coach of our team, Michael Oenning, has signed a new contract (1+1 years) today at the ARIS FC offices.”

“I’ve been happy to be here since the moment I arrived,” revealed Oenning when speaking to Aris after the announcement was made. “Taking into account the coronavirus pandemic, we don’t know how things will turn out now, but we have to adapt and be optimistic. We’ve already achieved our first goal of the season which was securing European football for next season. Now, we want to win the Greek Cup. Everyone’s been talking about winning that trophy since I came here. It’s our major goal and we will do everything possible to achieve it. I’m pleased to continue working with Aris. At the moment, we can’t speak about our targets for next season, and we have a problem with the FIFA transfer ban. We will take it step by step.”

The 54-year-old German became the Aris manager in October 2019. Since moving to Thessaloniki, Oenning has been at the Aris helm for a grand total of 25 matches across all competitions, registering 10 victories, nine draws and six defeats. Aris qualified for the championship playoffs of the Super League by finishing in sixth position of the regular season.

Aris are also waiting to host AEK in the second leg of the Greek Cup semi-final, trailing 1-2 in the tie after the first game in Athens. No date has yet been announced for the match.
