OFFICIAL: Fortounis extends Olympiacos contract

Olympiacos have confirmed that star midfielder, Kostas Fortounis, has extended his contract with the Erythrolefki.

On Monday morning, Olympiacos released this following statement:

“Kostas Fortounis was at the Olympiacos FC offices on Monday morning, signing a new contract. The leader will remain with the team of his heart upon the desire of both himself and Olympiacos owner, Vangelis Marinakis.

The football intelligence and leadership skills of Kostas Fortounis will be key components of Olympiacos’ return to success.”

Numerous reports have stated that Fortounis renewed his contract through to the summer of 2023. His previous deal was due to expire next year.

The gifted 26-year-old had been linked with a move away from Olympiacos.

Fortounis commented on the contract extension:

“I am very happy to have signed a new contract with Olympiacos. The process was completed very quickly. Both I and the club wanted this outcome. When I had a meeting with the owner, we reached an agreement, and this is what I wanted because I am staying with the club I love. I have been here since I was a young child. I left and then came back. I have been here for many years and I have a strong connection with the supporters. My message to them is that we will be successful again, returning to where we belong.”

In the 2018/2019 season, Fortounis was in superb form for Olympiacos, contributing with 17 goals and 16 assists across 43 matches in all competitions. Transfermarkt rates his value at 10 million euros.
