Olympiacos amongst last remaining undefeated European teams

After PAOK’s impressive undefeated season last year which saw the Thessaloniki club claim the Super League 1 title, another Greek team is trying to emulate that feat this season. Current league leaders Olympiacos are unbeaten after 24 rounds of the 2019/20 Greek Super League 1.

With 17 wins and six draws, Pedro Martins’ side top the table over PAOK by two points with three matches remaining before the playoffs. 

The Erythrolefki join a select group of European teams who are still undefeated heading into the latter stages of the season. The highest-profile of the undefeated clubs is undoubtedly Liverpool. Jurgen Klopp’s team are blazing an unprecedented trail in the English Premier League this season having won 24 of their first 25 league matches with just one draw to keep them from being perfect. 

Three other sides round out the select group of clubs still yet to lose a league match this season in the continent’s top 20 ranked leagues. Austrian powerhouse Red Bull Salzburg are in first place in the Austrian Bundesliga with 44 points from 18 matches (13 wins and five draws). Play resumes in Austria this weekend after a winter break and Salzburg would do well to continue their undefeated streak having sold stars Erling Haaland and Takumi Minamino. 

Ukraine’s Shakhtar Donetsk top the Ukrainian Premier League with 50 points from 18 matches. The Ukrainian giants have won sixteen matches, drawn just two and hold a 14-point lead over their nearest rivals, Dynamo Kiev. 

In the Czech Republic, Slavia Prague have yet to taste defeat in the country’s 1st League. Slavia, like Salzburg and Shakhtar, return to action in the next week after a winter break and top the domestic standings with 54 points from 20 matches, amassed thanks to 17 wins and three draws. 

Of these five unbeaten teams, only Olympiacos and Salzburg are undefeated in both the league and cup competitions of their respective leagues. Liverpool has tasted defeat in the League Cup in England, while both Shakhtar and Slavia have been knocked out of their respective domestic cups.
