On Saturday, these following notable statements were released by Olympiacos:

“The usage of the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) system, which is used internationally, has been transformed into a new method of manipulating referees which is decisive in shaping the outcome of matches.”

“Referees make different decisions for identical situations depending on which teams are playing. They are manipulating matches.”

“Olympiacos point out the terrible financial situation which the Hellenic Football Federation has at the moment, its notable inability to meet even the most basic of needs and its refusal to provide detailed information.”

“Olympiacos go a step further and point out the urgent need for the government to intervene immediately, address the current situation and lay the groundwork for a new way of managing and operating Greek football. Olympiacos stress that they are ready to contribute to this process.”

In other words, Olympiacos have said that they will leave the Super League unless changes are made immediately, preferably with their participation in the process. All of Olympiacos’ accusations concern the workings of Greek football in the last three years.

Olympiacos have not won a trophy in Greece since 2017.

Deputy Sports Minister, Lefteris Avgenakis, has confirmed that he will hold a meeting with Olympiacos officials when he returns from Qatar.

Olympiacos currently occupy first place of the 2019/2020 Super League with 26 points from 10 games. The Erythrolefki have only conceded a grand total of three goals in those matches.
