Olympiacos had taken a late lead in the Super League battle against bitter rivals AEK Athens, but the visitors scored twice in the dying moments to steal a stunning victory. Angered by their team’s collapse in Piraeus, a section of the Thrylos fans entered the pitch as the teams had just exited down the tunnel.

According to reports from gazzetta.gr, around fifty Olympiacos fans invaded the pitch, aggressively launching firecrackers and pieces of stadium equipment at the police on duty. Eventually, the forces resorted to using tear gas to repel the furious supporters’ advances. A video of the incident was uploaded to YouTube.

As a result of the chaos witnessed at the Karaiskakis Stadium, Olympiacos are faced with the possibility of heavy sanctions coming their way. There is a chance that the reigning Greek champions will be forced to play between two and four home matches in the Super League in front of an empty arena, lose three points from the standings, and pay a hefty fine of 250 thousand euros.

According to Point 4 in Article 15, if fans enter the pitch in order to cause violence or damage stadium property, there will be a monetary punishment of 250 thousand euros, a penalty of two to four matches without supporters, and the possibility of being deducted three points. Interestingly, Olympiacos’ next two home matches are scheduled to be against Panionios and Panathinaikos.
