Olympiacos Handed First Defeat of the Season

Olympiacos fell at home to Szolnoki 4-6 in the LEN Champions League, recording their first loss of the season in all competitions.

Olympiacos’ tremendous unbeaten run in all competitions this season has come to an end after the Erythrolefki fell 4-6 to Szolnoki in today’s LEN Champions League fixture. The result not only jumped Szolnoki to top spot in the group but mathematically secured them first place with one game remaining. Olympiacos will claim second spot and will play in the first round of the Final-6 as opposed to the second round which is granted to the first placed team in the group.

Olympiacos clinched their place in the Final-6 in their last LEN Champions League fixture against Spandau where the Greek side earned all three points.

In today’s derby for first place in the group, Szolnoki took an early lead but Olympiacos managed to bring the game on level terms in the third period (3-3). However, the visitors retook a two-goal lead (3-5) before Fountoulis scored for the hosts (4-5) and the game was put out of reach when Szolnoki scored their sixth goal of the game.
