Having defeated Baskonia at home last week, Olympiacos did have reason to be positive when travelling to Lithuania, but a fired-up Zalgiris side comfortably claimed a 94-69 victory which keeps them in the playoff hunt. Following a disappointing start to the season, Zalgiris have since made a huge improvement, notably winning four of their last five EuroLeague matches.

Zalgiris and Olympiacos, ranked 12th and 13th respectively, both hold a 9-14 record.

Arturas Milankis took a leading role for Zalgiris with 19 points, while Sasha Vezenkov scored 15 points for Olympiacos.

Later in the week, Zalgiris will face Anadolu Efes in Turkey, while Olympiacos welcome reigning champions CSKA Moscow to the Peace and Friendship Stadium in Piraeus.

THE MATCH

Zalgiris, playing in front of a sold-out crowd, competed with energy and enthusiasm throughout, winning all four quarters.

The Lithuanians took the initiative by emerging victorious 22-17 in the first period.

Helped by solid three-point shooting, as Zalgiris drained 14 of 22 efforts from behind the arc, the hosts never allowed Olympiacos to really get a grip on the game. It’s worth pointing out that Olympiacos did claim 31 rebounds in comparison to Zalgiris’ 24.

The third quarter, which Zalgiris won 23-11, really did ruin any faint Olympiacos hopes of a victory. The Kaunas-based outfit subsequently took the fourth 25-21 to secure the emphatic triumph.
