Fielding an experimental line-up without the likes of Jose Sa, Mathieu Valbuena and Youssef El Arabi, Olympiacos struggled for rhythm in Lamia, although they did still create enough chances to at least score their craved away goal. Lamia, however, held firm, and they will be happy to still be in the tie with the second leg of this Greek Cup quarter-final set to be played at the Karaiskakis Stadium.

The return is scheduled to take place in Piraeus next week.

THE MATCH

Olympiacos had the first chance of note in the 22nd minute.

Receiving a clever pass from Kostas Fortounis, Lazar Randjelovic was presented with a clear opening inside the Lamia penalty area, but he fell off balance before he could unleash a clean strike at goal.

At the other end, Lamia subsequently had a decent opportunity of their own, as Leonardo Villalba’s attempt from close range was brilliantly blocked by Avraam Papadopoulos.

Papadopoulos then almost provided an assist.

His long, searching pass over the defence was controlled by Ahmed Hassan, but the Egyptian striker could only hook the ball off target.

Konstantinos Theodoropoulos made his first tough save in the 38th minute. In a good shooting position, Randjelovic took aim with a rising effort, and Theodoropoulos knocked it wide with a solid parry.

Olympiacos missed another golden opportunity at the start of the second half.

Lining up for a powerful hit, Mohamed Camara stung the palms of Theodoropoulos; the ball fell kindly to the feet of Randjelovic, but the Serbian winger could only find the side-netting.

Not long later, Pape Abou Cisse tapped the ball over the crossbar following a corner, with Vasilis Torosidis having been better positioned to score.

Olympiacos were pushing for a potentially vital away goal. However, in the 76th minute, Papadopoulos was punished for a foul inside the box, as Miguel fell to the floor.

Nevertheless, after a video assistant referee check, Miguel was flagged offside and the penalty decision overturned.

In the final minute of play, Cisse could, and should, have earned a victory for Olympiacos, however his header missed with the goal gaping. Miguel wasted a similar chance for Lamia in stoppage time.
