Olympiacos’ decision to forfeit Sunday’s Basket League showdown with Panathinaikos at the Peace and Friendship has been met with a six-point deduction, a judge has decided.

In addition to being handed a 20-0 defeat for Sunday’s derby, Olympiacos will also be hit with a six-point deduction in the standings, and a fine of €11.000. Olympiacos are not expected to appeal the decision since the Erythrolefki were willing to accept the consequences of their decision.

The points deduction makes for a massive shakeup to the league standings as Olympiacos now falls from second place in the playoff picture to seventh place, with a potential playoff date with AEK in the first round should the standings hold through to the end of the season.

FURTHER DEDUCTION LOOMING?

Olympiacos, who began lobbying for foreign referees for all derby clashes with Panathinaikos, initially began their campaign for changes to the refereeing structure in Greek basketball following the Greek Cup semifinal clash with Panathinaikos last month.

Olympiacos opted to forfeit the second half of the Cup semifinal by not reporting to the court after halftime; a decision that was also handed a six-point deduction.

Olympiacos, who have since appealed the first six-point deduction from the Cup fixture, will be automatically relegated to the second tier should they forfeit another game this season.
