The Erythrolefki certainly needed this win. Since defeating Valencia on matchday two in Piraeus, Olympiacos had contrived to concede three successive home losses to Zenit Saint Petersburg, Maccabi Tel Aviv and Anadolu Efes, but they finally got back on track with a hard-fought win against Zalgiris. Olympiacos now possess a 3-5 record in the EuroLeague.

Vassilis Spanoulis was the leading scorer with 16 points. Nikola Milutinov (14 points, eight rebounds, 2 assists) and Brandon Paul (14 points, three rebounds, one assist) also impressed.

Giorgos Printezis notably scored his 3,000th EuroLeague point.

Olympiacos travel to Bayern Munich next week, while Zalgiris host Panathinaikos.

THE MATCH

Olympiacos edged an evenly-matched first period by one point. However, they lost that lead in the second, as their Lithuanian visitors won it 21-18 to gain a slender two-point advantage at the break.

Nevertheless, Olympiacos subsequently came storming out of the blocks in the third quarter, claiming it 23-16 to put themselves back in the box seat.

An advantage which they extended to nine in the fourth quarter.

Olympiacos will be hoping that this victory against an old rival will provide the required spark for the rest of the campaign.
