According to reports from Thessaloniki, Olympiacos have rejected Aris’ approach to sign Vassilis Toliopoulos on a one-year loan from the Piraeus giants.

Aris, who are looking to rebound from last season’s ninth-place finish in the Greek Basket League and early elimination in the Basketball Champions League, reportedly sought-out Toliopoulos’ services as the club’s starting point guard.

Olympiacos were quick to reject Aris’ approach as new Olympiacos bench boss David Blatt is reportedly keen on using Toliopoulos in his plans this season.

McGhee and Harris land in Thessaloniki

Despite Aris’ failed attempt to land Toliopoulos, the Thessaloniki outfit have been able to bolster their squad with the acquisition of Gary McGhee and Ramon Harris.

McGhee, who returned to Greek basketball last season when he signed with Kymis, makes the move to northern Greece after helping Kymis reach the Basket League playoffs for the first time in club history.

A two-year veteran of Greek basketball after a previous stint with Kolossos H Hotels during the 2015/2016 season, McGhee will hope to play an important role in a rebound season for Aris with the 29-year-old expected to fill-in as Vangelis Aggelou’s starting center.

Meanwhile, Harris arrives at Aris after a one-year stint with Kolossos – the same side that pipped Aris for the final playoff spot in the Basket League last season.

Harris played an important role at both ends of the court in Kolossos’ win over Aris on the final day of the regular season last campaign. Aris will hope that Harris can demonstrate that same talent as the club chase a return to the glory on the domestic and in Europe with the challenge of having to qualify for the Champions League group stage.

Bochoridis re-signs

While Aris have seen the arrival of many new faces this summer, a familiar face in Lefteris Bochoridis is staying put at the Nick Galis Hall.

Bochoridis, whose contract expired earlier this month, signed a one-year extension with the club and was promptly named captain for the upcoming season – taking over the mantle from Spyros Mourtos after the latter signed with Hephaestus Lemnos.

Bochoridis returned to Aris in December after spending close to three-and-half years with Panathinaikos. The 24-year-old Greek international, who has featured in Greece’s qualifying campaign for the 2019 FIBA World Cup, is tipped to feature as the club’s starting point guard alongside new shooting guard Boris Dallo.
