Olympiacos remain one of the few unbeaten teams in Europe

After their weekend victory, Olympiacos are now just one of four clubs in European football to remain undefeated during the 2019/20 season.

Olympiacos finished the Greek Super League 1 season undefeated on Sunday with a 2-0 victory over Panetolikos. It was a win that guaranteed Pedro Martins’ side would finish top of the table with the conclusion of the regular season. The Piraeus club recorded 20 wins and six draws in 26 matches and will try to continue their undefeated run in the upcoming playoffs to determine the league champions and next season’s European places.

Olympiacos entered the weekend as one of just six European sides to remain undefeated at this stage of the campaign. However, that number was trimmed by two this past weekend as Liverpool and Shakhtar Donetsk both suffered shock losses that ended their respective undefeated runs. 

Thus Olympiacos are now part of a small group of four undefeated teams and are impressively the only club still to lose whose league is ranked in the top 20 of European football. 

Along with Olympiacos, the other three sides yet to lose a league match during the current season are Ludogorets (Bulgaria), Maccabi Tel-Aviv (Israel), and Europa FC (Gibraltar). 

This represents the second season in a row where a Greek side have gone undefeated through an entire league campaign. En route to their title win last year, PAOK had also achieved the same feat with 26 wins, four draws, and no losses in 30 matches.
