Earlier this year, PAOK and Xanthi were found guilty of multi-ownership, with Olympiacos having initially accused Greek-Russian businessman Ivan Savvidis of controlling the two clubs. On Tuesday, the Super League held a meeting concerning the issue, despite the fact that the legal enquiry is still ongoing. Both PAOK and Xanthi have vehemently denied all accusations pointed towards them.

At the meeting, Olympiacos, AEL, Aris and Panionios were the only four Super League teams which voted in favour of relegating PAOK and Xanthi from the championship. Panetolikos, Panathinaikos, PAOK, Volos NFC and Xanthi all voted against the idea of relegation, while AEK, Atromitos and OFI were in favour of sending the case to the Disciplinary Committee of the Hellenic Football Federation (EPO).

Asteras Tripolis and the EPO abstained from voting. Lamia representatives didn’t even turn up to the meeting.

“We’re not legal judges, so we believe that this matter should be cleared up by the Disciplinary Committee,” stated the vice-president of Atromitos.

During the meeting, Olympiacos requested for foreign referees to take charge of all Super League playoff games and the semi-finals of the Greek Cup. The Erythrolefki will face arch-rivals PAOK in the semi-final stage of the national cup competition.

Fiery AEL owner, Alexis Kougias, had reportedly suggested that PAS Giannina and Volos are also owned by PAOK.

One round of the 2019/2020 Super League regular season remains before the playoffs and playouts begin.
