According to reports from Sport FM, Martins has verbally agreed to extend his contract with Olympiacos, with the current deal due to expire at the end of the 2019/2020 season. Although he does want to manage a club in a stronger championship in the future, the 49-year-old is eager to continue coaching Olympiacos for at least one more season, and the management will reportedly double his earnings. Martins has deservedly earned the love and respect of the Olympiacos faithful since arriving ahead of the 2018/2019 campaign.

All that remains is for the two parties to officially sign the contract extension.

At the moment, Martins is waiting for the green light to resume training sessions, and the fact that all Olympiacos players are now in Greece means that they’ll be allowed to leave their homes once restrictions are lifted in May. All people travelling to the country from abroad are currently obliged to stay indoors for 14 days after arriving.

The state is predicted to allow teams to begin training together again in the first half of May.

Remaining undefeated, Olympiacos dominated the Super League regular season, winning 20 of their 26 matches to boast a seemingly unassailable 14-point advantage over second-placed PAOK. Olympiacos are also involved in the semi-finals of the Greek Cup and the Round of 16 of the UEFA Europa League.

Overall, Martins has been at the Olympiacos helm for 95 matches across all competitions so far, registering 64 victories, 18 draws, and 13 defeats. Martins has inspired the Piraeus-based organisation to famous European victories against AC Milan and Arsenal in the Europa League.

The second leg of the Last 16 tie against Wolverhampton Wanderers could be held in July.
