Olympiacos unveil Markovic signing

Olympiacos have confirmed the signing of Svetozar Markovic, penning a five-year contract with the young Serbian defender.

On Tuesday afternoon, Olympiacos released this following statement:

“Olympiacos FC announces the signing of footballer Svetozar Markovic.”

Reports subsequently confirmed that Markovic, 19, has signed a five-year contract with Olympiacos. The Erythrolefki paid 1.5 million euros in order to sign the Serbian centre-back from Partizan Belgrade.

During the 2018/2019 campaign, Markovic was an important player for Partizan, making 33 appearances across all competitions and scoring three goals. Transfermarkt rates his value at 2.5 million.

Markovic, born in Bosnia, holds both a Bosnian and Serbian passport, representing the latter on the international stage. He has played in three games for the under 21 Serbian national team after making his debut in September 2018.

The talented defender commented on the transfer: “I have moved to a very big club in Olympiacos. I’m happy about this and it shows that I am making progress in the sport. Yes, it’s hard for me to leave my country and my team, but Partizan will always be in my heart.”
