Panathinaikos, AEK claim routine Basket League victories

Both Panathinaikos and AEK cruised to routine wins in the Basket League on Sunday, comfortably defeating Rethymno and Larisa respectively.

PANATHINAIKOS 96-74 RETHYMNO CRETAN KINGS

Last week, Panathinaikos surrendered their unbeaten record in the 2019/2020 Basket League regular season with a shock loss to Peristeri, but they got back to winning ways on Sunday with a comfortable 22-point win against the Rethymno Cretan Kings at the OAKA Indoor Hall.

Panathinaikos, bossing proceedings against their Cretan opponents, won all four periods in Athens.

Konstantinos Mitoglou stood out with nine points and 13 rebounds, while Giorgos Papagiannis (18), Jacob Wiley (12), Nick Calathes (11), Tyrese Rice (11) and Rion Brown (10) all reached double figures in terms of points. Wesley Gordon achieved a double-double for Rethymno with 13 points and 10 rebounds.

Panathinaikos continue to lead the standings, but, for their part, Rethymno are 12th with four wins in 12 games.

Next week, Panathinaikos will face Panionios on the road, while Rethymno host Kolossos Rodou.

LARISA 76-86 AEK

Interestingly, AEK only managed to win one of the four quarters against Larisa on the road, but it was still enough to claim a comfortable 86-76 victory.

In the first quarter, AEK went a long way to ending the game as a contest, outscoring their struggling opponents 24-9. Nevertheless, Larisa weren’t prepared to wave the white flag, and they were drew the second and third frames before winning the fourth 23-18.

The hugely impressive Keith Langford, who is in fantastic form for AEK this season, scored 28 points. Terell Parks grabbed a double-double for Larisa with 21 points and 11 rebounds to his name.

At the moment, AEK sit in fourth place of the table, boasting eight victories. Larisa, however, are bottom with three wins and a large nine defeats.

In their next game, Larisa will travel to Lavrio, while AEK welcome Ionikos Nikaia to the OAKA.
