In the semi-final, Promitheas shocked AEK in Athens to qualify for their first Basket League final in history, but they were completely outclassed in game one against Panathinaikos. Dominant from start to finish, the Athenian giants put Promitheas to the sword, scoring 103 points to claim a comfortable win.

Once again, the talismanic Nick Calathes ran the show, tallying 11 points and 13 assists. Mat Lojeski continued his impressive run of form with 16 points, while Deshaun Thomas (13), Giorgos Papagiannis and Thanasis Antetokounmpo (10) also reached double figures for the home team.

The second match will take place in Patras on Wednesday. Three victories in the series are required to earn the crown of Greek champions.

THE MATCH

Panathinaikos immediately began scoring for run. In the first quarter, the Greens opened up a six-point lead (24-18), before they emphatically won the second 28-13 to practically put the match out of Promitheas’ reach.

The third frame was where Panathinaikos really took off. Cutting the Promitheas defence open at will, the Trifylli tallied 30 points in the quarter, persistently hitting the target with the opponents struggling defensively.

Panathinaikos took their foot off the gas in the fourth as Promitheas won the concluding stanza 26-21, but it made little difference to the outcome, with the hosts scoring over 100 points for the first time in the 2018/2019 Basket League playoffs.
