Taking into account the contrasting form of the two teams, Panathinaikos were expected to steamroller Aris in Thessaloniki, however the struggling hosts held their own and only lost by seven points in front of their home supporters. At the moment, the Prasini occupy first position of the Basket League table with 16 victories and two defeats, but Aris are rock bottom with a miserable 5-13 record.

Ioannis Papapetrou (21 points) and the in-form Deshaun Thomas (19 points) took a leading role for Panathinaikos, while Eleftherios Bochoridis scored 18 points for the hosts. Aris representative Milan Milosevic registered a double-double with 15 points and 14 rebounds.

Giorgos Papagiannis of Panathinaikos also tallied a double-double as he scored 11 points and claimed 12 rebounds.

In their next game, Aris will face Kolossos in Rhodes, while Panathinaikos take on Larisa BC at the OAKA Indoor Hall.

THE MATCH

Aris immediately kept pace with Panathinaikos as they only lost the first period 23-29.

In the second, Aris continued improving, outscoring Panathinaikos to reduce the deficit to five points.

However, sensing danger, Panathinaikos quickly put themselves in a solid position during the third quarter, taking it 27-20.

Aris, however, weren’t prepared to throw the towel in, and they were even within four points of Panathinaikos with a little less than two minutes remaining.

Nick Calathes subsequently nailed a two-pointer to secure the win for Panathinaikos.
