Panathinaikos Fourth Favourite to be Relegated

Panathinaikos Fourth Favourite to be Relegated

Beyond unthinkable but the sad reality - Panathinaikos is the fourth favourite team to be relegated from this season’s Championship, according to Stoiximan. This can be attributed to a variety of factors, such as the team starting on -6, the transfer restrictions at play, the messy and uncertain financial status of the club and moving away from its spiritual home of Leoforos to OAKA. This is a sad indictment of the Giannis Alafouzos era as the misguided actions of club management have dragged the team to this position.

The 2018-19 Greek Super League season will differ from the last few years, as the competition will be downgraded from 16 to 14 teams as of 2019-20. This means that there will be 3 teams relegated from the top flight, rather than the standard 2, and only 1 team from the Football League will be promoted. The latter is yet to be confirmed, but as it can be observed, this puts a strain on teams expected to be in a relegation scrap as competition will be even more fierce. This is one of many reasons why the upcoming season promises to be the most intriguing yet.

Other teams will be experienced in this sort of fight, however, it will be something different for the Trifylli who have been a certainty for the top 4 practically every season. Under a week out from the season opener at Xanthi, the Greens find themselves the fourth favourite for relegation, even ahead of newly promoted duo OFI and Aris.

Panathinaikos is 5.25 Euro, OFI is 35 Euro and Aris 125 Euro. The only 3 teams under the Greens are Lamia (3.75 Euro), Apollon Smyrni (4.50 Euro) and Larissa (5 Euro). According to Stoiximan, last season’s top 5 will be the furthest away from the bottom spots, as all 5 are the longest odds to be relegated.

Stoiximan is the only company that allows fans to bet on such a market, with others only offering the option to bet on the winner of the League. It is worth noting that “Goalbet” offers the Trifylli as the 8th favourite team for the title at odds of 150 Euro. PAOK are the favourites to be crowned as Champions at 1.80 Euro, AEK second at 3.75 Euro and Olympiakos third at 4 Euro. Atromitos is 4th in this market at 50 Euro. There are 3 teams locked at 125 Euro at equal 5th - Asteras Tripolis, Aris and Panionios. Panathinaikos sit under all of these teams.
