This following statement was released by Panathinaikos on Friday:

“Panathinaikos announces that from today until the Basketball Club is transferred to a new owner, the management team will consist of Fragiskos Alvertis, Dimitris Diamantidis and Takis Triantopoulos. Next week, the three of them will take part in a press-conference alongside the head coach, Giorgos Vovoras, in which they will talk in detail about their plan and the way in which the club operates.”

Furthermore, it was confirmed that president Manos Papadopoulos has left Panathinaikos, with rumours heavily linking him with a move to Zenit Saint Petersburg in Russia. Current Zenit coach Xavi Pascual, who previously managed Panathinaikos between 2016 and 2018, is eager to link up with Papadopoulos again in Saint Petersburg.

Papadopoulos departs Panathinaikos after 30 successful years with the organisation. As previously reported on AGONAsport, Dimitris Giannakopoulos has put Panathinaikos on sale for 25 million euros, with the fiery businessman having taken the decision to end all involvement with the club.

Giorgos Vovoras will be the head coach for the 2020/2021 campaign.

Initially, reports had suggested that Alvertis was on the verge of leaving Panathinaikos, but he eventually decided to stay. Panathinaikos legend Diamantidis returns to the organisation after 12 fantastic years with the team as a player from 2004 to 2016.
