Panathinaikos pay the price for derby fan violence

Panathinaikos will pay a hefty price for their fans’ behaviour in March’s derby against fierce rivals Olympiacos. In addition to losing five points (which makes it 11 in total this season), the club will pay a substantial amount of money as a fine.

The Greens will be forced to pay 319,500 euros as punishment for the incidents. This will undoubtedly bite into the club’s budget for next season and it sets them on the back foot.

The fine can be broken down into several categories. 94,500 euros will go to the Super League, and 150,000 to ERT for the breaks in coverage, 50,000 for matches behind closed doors (to ERT), and 25,000 for acts of violence (to ERT).

Whilst the budget will increase for next season, this will significantly hurt the club as this was the type of salary that would be offered to a ‘good’ player - one that is experienced and of high quality, who can make a difference.
