Panathinaikos sweep Olympiacos in first match

Panathinaikos beat Olympiacos 3-0 away in the first match of the A1 Men’s Volley League Final, and are now just one win away from winning their first league title in 14 years.

In a match played in Piraeus without spectators, the two teams were close early on, with Panathinaikos holding a narrow 18-19 lead towards the end of the first set. A late surge from the visitors saw them take the first set 19-25. Panathinaikos then went on to win the second and third sets, 22-25 and 19-25, to clinch a 3-0 win.

Match 2 of the series will now take place on July 12, with the third and final match (if necessary) to be played on July 15. Olympiacos are looking for their 30th title in club history (and third consecutive), while Panathinaikos are looking for their 19th league title overall, having won their 18th back in 2006.
