Before the game started, Panetolikos were only one point ahead of Panionios, but they romped to a 2-0 triumph on the road which has consequently confirmed that they cannot be directly relegated from the Super League. As it stands, a playoff is due to be played between the club in 13th place of the Super League and the second-placed Super League 2 side, however there isn’t a high possibility of it taking place. The 2019/2020 Super League 2 season was cancelled as a consequence of the coronavirus crisis.

Panionios, however, are now in major trouble of relegation. At the moment, the Panthers are bottom of the table with 22 points, trailing Xanthi by the single point with one round remaining. On the concluding matchday, Panionios will compete against Atromitos, while Panetolikos will take on Volos NFC at home.

Panetolikos dominated large periods of the first half. Competing with the initiative, the visitors applied plenty of pressure on Panionios, pressing which resulted in a penalty as Stefanos Evangelou was penalised for handball.

Admir Bajorvic calmly stroked the ensuing penalty beyond Matic Kotnik into the left corner.

At the start of the second half, Panetolikos quickly put the game out of sight, as Manolis Tzanakakis fired a low effort past Kotnik.

In the remaining minutes, the hosts tried to find a way back into the match, but Panetolikos calmly saw it out.
