Struggling Panetolikos were denied what would have been a vital home win over Volos in Agrinio on Monday evening as the visitors fought back to level the match in the sixth minute of added time.

Panetolikos’ 32-year-old French winger Anthony Mounier opened the scoring after 42 minutes in a closely-contested Super League Matchday 23 clash at the Panetolikos Stadium, and then went on to miss a hatful of chances to extend their lead.

Mounier’s strike looked like it would be enough to clinch a much needed three-point haul, especially after Volos had Vasilis-Efrem Mantzis sent off for picking up a second yellow card in the fifth minute of stoppage time.

But Volos, who have slipped right down the table after fading badly following a promising start to the campaign, made one last effort to score and they managed to do so in the last minute of added time with Stergios Dimopoulos the man on target.

It’s the second week running that Panetolikos have conceded in the dying seconds of a match following last weekend’s 2-1 defeat at Asteras Tripolis when Milos Deletic needed right at the death for the home side.

This result leaves Makis Chavos’ Panetolikos side in 13th place on 14 points from 23 matches, with three games of the regular season to go, while Volos are above them in 12th spot with 26 points.
