The Agrinio outfit formally secured their spot in next season’s Super League as they held Volos at bay at home. However, they grabbed their win with a big chunk of fortune, as a terrible defensive mistake was punished by Frederico Almeida Duarte who thumped the ball into the net in the 31st minute.

Searching for an equaliser, Volos did apply pressure on Panetolikos and even hit the post at the end of the first half, but the hosts successfully saw the match out.

Panetolikos end the campaign in sixth place of the playouts with 29 points, two behind Volos in fifth.

HIGHLIGHTS

Elsewhere, playout leaders Asteras failed to beat Lamia in Tripoli, with the game ending level at 1-1. Nevertheless, despite the disappointing result, Asteras have clinched first place of the playouts with 43 points. Lamia are fourth with 35 points on the board.

Asteras took the lead in the 18th minute as Xesc tapped a cross from the left wing over the line. 20 minutes later, Christos Aravidis thought he had got Lamia on the board, but his header was ruled out for offside.

However, in the early stages of the second half, Lamia did eventually equalise as Miguel Bianconi fired beyond Nikos Papadopoulos following an error from Giorgos Antzoulas.

Not long after that goal, Aravidis once again had a goal cancelled, with the former AEK forward being punished for a foul in the box.
