Panionios, who went into the match keen to close the eight point gap between themselves and fourth-placed Atromitos, went ahead against the run of play after 58 minutes at the Levadia Municipal Stadium.

But Jose Anigo’s home side did not lose heart, pulling level through Brazilian defender just two minutes later before striker Petros Giakoumakis netted what proved to be the winning goal to complete a deserved fightback with 13 minutes left.

The result was a fair reflection on the game, with the home side hitting the post just a few minutes before Panionios opened the scoring, the fabulously-named Chumbinho the unlucky player.

As a result of the win Levadiakos, who had enjoyed a promising start to the season before suffering a dip in form, move up to eighth, just four points behind Panionios who occupy fifth place.

Panionios boss Michalis Grigoriou won’t be pleased about his team surrendering so easily in the second half in their final game before the mini break, but the Panthers can be reasonably pleased with their first half of the campaign.
