Goals from Aleksandar Prijovic and Mauricio secured a 10th win in 11 games for Razvan Lucescu’s record-breaking team, who show no signs of letting up in their efforts to bring home the title for the first time since 1985.

PAOK now lead second-placed Atromitos, with Olympiacos a further four points behind in third place. Atromitos can narrow the gap back to two points if they manage to beat Olympiacos in the pick of Sunday’s matches.

After a goalless first half at the Toumba in which both teams passed up some good chances to score, it was PAOK who finally broke the deadlock two minutes into the second half.

Substitute Vierinha played a leading role. The Portuguese midfielder, just seconds after coming on to replace Stelios Kitsiou, sent over a cross for Prijovic to score from close range with a trademark header.

That seemed to end Xanthi’s strong resistance up to that point and knock their confidence a little. PAOK took full advantage and continued to attack the visitors goal, with Dimitris Pelkas coming close with an effort that fizzed wide after 59 minutes.

It seemed only a matter of time before PAOK grabbed a second goal and sure enough it came five minutes after the hour mark. Mauricio was the man on target, scoring with a brilliant free-kick after Dimitris Limnios had been fouled by Xanthi defender Dimos Baxevanidis.
