PAOK pair Mystakidis and Kace join Panathinaikos on loan

Following a few key roster losses, struggling Athenian giants Panathinaikos managed to sign PAOK pair Giannis Mystakidis and Ergys Kace on loan until the end of the 2017/2018 season.

Without possessing the financial means to purchase players of a decent calibre on permanent deals, Panathinaikos were forced to search for possible loans to somehow strengthen their ever weakening squad. In the end, they managed to sign PAOK players Giannis Mystakidis and Ergys Kace. Both loans are only for the remainder of the current season, but while Mystakidis is sure to return to PAOK in the summer, Panathinaikos do have the option to purchase Kace if he impresses in Athens.

Panathinaikos announced the two loans on their official website: “Panathinaikos announce the loan signings of Ergys Kace and Giannis Mystakidis from PAOK. Kace is an international with Albania, and Panathinaikos will have an option to buy him in the summer. Mystakidis used to compete with the under 21 Greek national team and will stay at the club until summer 2018.”

Mystakidis, who can play either as a main striker or on the wings, is expected to be used in both positions by Panathinaikos head coach Marinos Ouzounidis. Albanian defensive midfielder Kace will add more reliability in the centre of the park, especially given his experience at this level. 24-year old Kace has already made over 100 senior PAOK appearances.

During his professional career to date, Mystakidis has only played for PAOK and Pierikos, but he did play in Germany at youth level for Hoffenheim, Waldholf Mannheim and Freiburg. Albanian Kace came through the ranks at PAOK’s academy, then being loaned out at Anagennisi Epanomi, Viktoria Plzen and now Panathinaikos. He has received 21 caps for his national team.
