Initially, it was assumed that PAOK would move to the Kaftanzoglio Stadium this summer for the next three years, while their current Toumba Stadium is knocked down for a new arena to be constructed. However, on Tuesday, rumours in the Greek media suggested there’s a possibility PAOK could stay at the Toumba for the 2019/2020 season as required updates to the Kaftanzoglio Stadium are taking longer than predicted.

In order for the Kaftanzoglio Stadium to meet UEFA requirements for European competition, improvements have to be made to the changing rooms, media facilities and VIP zones. With PAOK set to compete in the 2019/2020 UEFA Champions League qualifying rounds in the summer, the upgrades need to be completed in the near future, but little progress has been made.

If the Kaftanzoglio Stadium isn’t ready in time, PAOK will be forced to play the 2019/2020 season at the Toumba Stadium, before work on their new arena starts next May after the campaign reaches its conclusion.

This season, PAOK have been unbeatable at the Toumba Stadium, winning an impressive 14 out of 15 Super League home games alongside a 1:1 derby draw against local rivals Aris. As things stand, PAOK will enter the Champions League in the second qualifying phase, but if either Barcelona or Liverpool win the title in the current season, the Dikefalos tou Vorra will join the tournament in the third stage of qualification.
