At a ground where PAOK traditionally find it tough to get a result, maximum points were just about deserved from a match in which their controlled for long spells, even having what looked like a legitimate goal chalked off late on.

Although Panionios enjoyed the better half-chances in the first half, PAOK were much better after the break and after Omar’s 68th-minute strike, Razvan Lucescu’s team never looked like giving up the points.

The 28-year-old Morocco midfielder worked himself some space in the box and beat Panionios goalkeeper Filip Manojlović with a clinical finish.

Panionios’ Austrian forward Srđan Spiridonović was the hosts’ most dangerous player, but he missed a couple of decent first half opportunities and fired over when he should have done better after 82 minutes.

There was still time for PAOK to have the last word, however, and former Arsenal forward Chuba Akpom was unlucky to have what was a clearly fair goal ruled out for offside. That didn’t stop PAOK taking the points, and the Black and Whites are now on four points from two games despite winning both, due to their two-point deduction from last season.
