PAOK to host Benfica in Champions League, Aris and OFI the home teams in UEL ties

PAOK will face Benfica at the Toumba Stadium in the third qualifying round of the 2020/2021 UEFA Champions League, while Aris will compete against Kolos Kovalivka in Thessaloniki and OFI will do battle with Apollon Limassol at home in the second qualification phase of the UEFA Europa League.

The Dikefalos tou Vorra will have a familiar opponent in the Champions League third qualifying round. On Monday, the draw for the third phase of qualification took place, with PAOK paired up with Portuguese giants Benfica. The match will be played at the Toumba Stadium on either the 15th or 16th of September.

The first, second and third qualifying rounds of both the Champions League and Europa League are being decided in single games as a result of the tight schedule.

In 2018, PAOK came up short against Benfica in the playoffs of the Champions League, contriving to suffer a heavy 1-4 loss in Thessaloniki after initially claiming a 1-1 draw in Portugal in the first leg. PAOK defeated Besiktas 3-1 in the second qualifying round of this year’s tournament.

Furthermore, if PAOK do progress to the playoffs, it has been confirmed that they will take on Russian side FC Krasnodar. Last year, Krasnodar endured a miserable duel against Olympiacos in the same stage of the Champions League, conceding an emphatic 1-6 aggregate defeat to the Erythrolefki.

ARIS, OFI LEARN EUROPA LEAGUE FATE

In the Europa League, both Aris and OFI will join the party in the second qualifying round, with the clubs drawn against Kolos Kovalivka of Ukraine and Cyprus’ Apollon Limassol respectively. Aris and OFI will host their matches which are scheduled to be played on September 17.

However, due to coronavirus problems in Heraklion, there is a chance that OFI will have to play their game against Apollon Limassol in Athens instead. The Georgios Kamaras Stadium in the neighborhood of Rizoupoli is reportedly the favourite to be selected.
