PAOK undefeated in Super League for entire calendar year

Following another confident Super League victory on Sunday, PAOK have now gone an entire calendar year without a single defeat in the domestic championship, with their last loss being registered on March 4, 2018 against Asteras in Tripoli.

365 days, 28 matches, 25 victories, 3 draws, 0 defeats. That’s exactly how PAOK have performed in the Super League since losing 2:3 against Asteras Tripolis on the road on March 4, 2018. In that particular game in the 2017/2018 campaign, PAOK had equalised in the seventh minute of stoppage time after a penalty from Aleksandar Prijovic, but 60 seconds later, Walter Iglesias scored a dramatic winning goal to snatch an incredible 3:2 win for Asteras.

Of course, PAOK were handed two technical 0:3 defeats to Olympiacos and AEK in the 2017/2018 Super League after those two games were abandoned in Thessaloniki, but if we only take into account their results on the pitch itself, the Dikefalos tou Vorra have avoided defeat in the Greek championship for the past 12 months.

PAOK are on course to become the second Greek team in history after Panathinaikos to win the championship undefeated. In the 1963/1964 season, Panathinaikos earned the title of champions by going a full campaign unbeaten, and PAOK are now seven matches away from becoming the first Greek club to repeat that feat.

This season, PAOK have been ruthless in the key matches, defeating Olympiacos and Panathinaikos twice, while tallying two wins and two draws in four matches against AEK and Aris. Next week, the Thessaloniki club do have a potentially tricky home game with Atromitos at the Toumba Stadium, but apart from that particular fixture, they have a comfortable run-in as they look to secure the Super League trophy. They will complete the campaign with a home match against PAS Giannina.
