Earlier this week, ERT and the Super League 2 signed a broadcasting contract which allowed the 2019/2020 campaign to resume after it had initially been stopped following the first round of fixtures. In the first game since the deal, PAS Giannina earned a tense 2-1 victory at Levadiakos on Friday with Giorgos Pamlidis scoring the winner from the penalty spot. These two clubs were relegated from the Super League last season.

Vangelis Mantzios had earlier drawn Levadiakos level with a spot-kick after an own goal had gifted PAS the lead.

PAS, widely regarded as promotion favourites, have four points from the opening two rounds of the season having claimed a 1-1 draw at Panachaiki in their first match. Levadiakos have lost both of their games.

THE MATCH

It didn’t take long for PAS to take the lead at the Levadia Municipal Stadium.

With nine minutes on the clock, Levadiakos midfielder Athanasios Panteliadis inadvertently deflected Vladyslav Naumets’ free-kick beyond his goalkeeper.

Levadiakos equalised in the 44th minute as Mantzios’ penalty was just too hot for former AEK goalkeeper Serafeim Giannikoglou to handle. Mantzios had won the penalty himself when being fouled by Epaminondas Pantelakis.

Nevertheless, PAS would take a crucial second lead two minutes after the half-time break, as Pamlidis calmly slotted his penalty into the left corner. Panagiotis Liagas had been punished for tripping Alexandros Nikolias inside the box.

Levadiakos huffed and puffed for another equaliser, but for all of their attacking efforts, they failed to create many clear-cut opportunities.
