Pavlidis scores twice in Willem II victory

Vangelis Pavlidis scored twice on Friday evening as Willem II defeated Zwolle 3:1 in the opening match of the 2019/2020 Eredivisie campaign.

Initially, Zwolle opened the scoring in the 39th minute, but Willem II equalised just 120 seconds later through Pavlidis. Receiving a pass on the edge of the penalty area, the 20-year-old twisted to a shooting position with a clever move, subsequently firing an accurate low attempt beyond the goalkeeper’s despairing dive.

Shortly after the break, Willem II gained the lead with an own goal, before Pavlidis sealed the victory in the 72nd minute with his second of the evening. Lurking in the box, Pavlidis connected with a feed from Che Nunnely, turning the ball past Xavier Mous.

Pavlidis later received a yellow card as he played the entire game. Fellow Greek attacker Marios Vrousai also remained on the pitch for the full 90 minutes.
