Favourites to advance to the quarter-finals, Hapoel Jerusalem duly lived up to their tag behind closed doors in Israel, with fans barred from attending the match as a result of the coronavirus outbreak. Even without their supporters, the Israelis proved too strong for their Greek opponents, winning three of the four quarters.

The second game will take place in Greece on March 11th. If they win, Hapoel Jerusalem will secure qualification to the next phase, but in the event of a Peristeri victory, the series will be sent back to Israel.

Yanick Moreira achieved a double-double for Peristeri with 20 points and 11 rebounds. TaShawn Thomas was the leading scorer for Hapoel Jerusalem with 16 points, seven rebounds and two assists to his name.

THE MATCH

Starting the game with confidence, Hapoel quickly put themselves in the box seat, outscoring Peristeri 25-18 in the first period.

However, in the second quarter, Peristeri suddenly threatened an upset.

In claiming the frame by five points, the away side reduced the deficit to a mere two points, and Moreira hit the target first in the third quarter to level the score at 48-48.

Peristeri did then hold a three-point advantage at one point.

Hapoel Jerusalem, however, became dominant as the second half progressed, taking the fourth stanza 19-11 to see the match out.
