Platanias fell behind in the first minute, but after equalising in the closing stages of the opening frame, the visitors then snatched a pulsating victory with a powerful volley from Miguel in the 89th minute.

With two rounds of the Super League 2 season in the books, Platanias currently occupy joint first place of the standings with a maximum haul of six points, but Ergotelis are yet to get on the board. Ergotelis had lost their first game 3-0 to Apollon Smyrnis in Rizoupoli.

Platanias will host Chania in their next game. Ergotelis, searching for their first points of the campaign, travel to promotion favourites PAS Giannina.

THE MATCH

Ergotelis achieved the perfect start at the Pankritio Stadium.

Just 23 seconds after the first whistle, Giannis Iatroudis picked out the open Joseph Efford inside the penalty area, who controlled the ball well before tapping it under the opposing goalkeeper.

Iatroudis later missed a golden opportunity to double Ergotelis’ money when firing wide at point blank range. A miss which was punished with eight minutes left in the first half.

Escaping his marker in the box, Giannis Loukinas successfully connected with a low cross, hooking the ball into the right corner.

The second half saw the teams largely cancel each other out. Charles Kwateng came close for the home team in the 72nd minute, but his strong attempt sailed off target with the goalkeeper beaten.

Platanias struck a killer blow with five minutes remaining.

Efford turned from hero to zero. Cheaply coughing up possession to an opponent in a dangerous position, he gifted Platanias the chance to create an opportunity, and Miguel subsequently thumped a volley home to hand his team all three points.
