Promitheas claim overtime win at PAOK; Peristeri fall to Kolossos

Promitheas claimed a battling overtime triumph at PAOK on matchday 12 of the Basket League, while Peristeri conceded defeat against Kolossos Rodou, Aris beat Lavrio, Ifaistos Limnou were too strong for Iraklis and Ionikos earned a win over Panionios.

PAOK 86-90 PROMITHEAS

PAOK, struggling with financial problems, were close to a surprise win against Promitheas. In the dying seconds, Adam Smith had two free-throws to snatch a victory for the Dikefalos tou Vorra, but he could only covert one of them to take the match into overtime.

In the extra frame, Promitheas managed to secure a thrilling win, outscoring their opponents 14-10.

Chase Fieler scored 27 points for Promitheas, while Leonidas Kaselakis (18 points) and Chris Babb (15 points) also reached double figures. 

Promitheas are now second in the Basket League with nine wins in 12 games. PAOK, however, are languishing in 11th spot with three victories.

KOLOSSOS RODOU 101-84 PERISTERI

Midweek, Peristeri secured a major win in the Basketball Champions League over VEF Riga on the road, but they came up short against Kolossos in Rhodes 101-84.

Initially, the away side made a positive start by claiming the first quarter 20-16, however, the wheels came off in the second as Kolossos won it 32-15.

A seven-point win in the third period made sure of a vital triumph for Kolossos.

Donovan Jackson, scoring 20 points, took a leading role for Kolossos Rodou, with Lasannah Kromah (17 points), Giorgos Tsalmpouris (14 points) and Dimitris Moraitis (12 points) also impressing for the home club.

Kolossos climb to eighth in the standings with five victories from 12 matches. Peristeri, boasting eight wins, sit in third.

ARIS 81-70 LAVRIO

In desperate need of a win after four successive defeats, Aris duly picked up their third victory of the Basket League season, edging past Lavrio 81-70 in Thessaloniki.

Aris, playing with plenty of motivation in front of their home fans, won the opening three quarters to put themselves in a great position. In the fourth, Lavrio did attempt an unlikely comeback, but, despite their best efforts, Aris held on comfortably.

Lavrio occupy seventh place with an even split of six wins and six defeats in 12 games.

Lefteris Bochoridis stood out for the winning team with 20 points, eight rebounds and two assists.

IFAISTOS LIMNOU 79-65 IRAKLIS

Ifaistos Limnou are in promising form. In their past six games, they have gained four victories, with the latest being achieved by a score of 79-65 against Iraklis at their home ground.

This is Iraklis’ second defeat in a row after conceding a narrow loss to Promitheas on matchday 11.

Ifaistos were in trouble after three periods. However, they burst into life in the fourth quarter, scoring a large 36 points to earn a thrilling victory.

Dimitris Stamatis (18 points), Sean Evans (16 points), Mario Little (12 points) and Michalis Pelekanos (10 points) were the leading Ifaistos Limnou scorers. 

Iraklis slip down to ninth position with five victories in 12 matches, while Ifaistos Limnou are fifth with seven wins.

IONIKOS NIKAIA 108-74 PANIONIOS

It turned out to be a blowout win for Ionikos Nikaia in Palaio Faliro. Dominating proceedings, the home club easily defeated Panionios, scoring more than 30 points in two of the four quarters.

This defeat signals the end of Panionios’ three-game winning streak. Ionikos, for their part, recovered after losing to Rethymno on December 14.

Loukas Mavrokefalidis enjoyed a game to remember, getting 33 points, 10 rebounds and three assists on the road. Steve Burtt scored 25 points as his stunning form for Ionikos Nikaia continued.

Ionikos Nikaia are fourth in the standings with seven wins and five losses. Panionios hold 12th position with five victories.
