Rampant Panionios crush Panaitolikos

Panionios returned to winning ways in emphatic fashion on Saturday with a comprehensive 3-0 home victory over Panaitolikos, while Larissa and Levadiakos played out a 1-1 draw.

Three goals in 28 minutes at the start of the first half did the damage, as strikes from Giorgos Masouras, Panagiotis Korbos and Fiorin Durmishaj blew away the shell-shocked visitors at the Nea Smyrni stadium.

The victory is only Panionios’ third of what has been an inconsistent campaign so far for the Panthers, and ends a two-game run without a win which moves them up into ninth spot with 11 points. Panaitolikos are one place and one points above them in eighth.

Jose Anigo’s Panionios began with a sense of urgency which helped them open the scoring after just two minutes when Masouras fired home from close range after Panaitolikos defender Dimitris Kyriakidis’ poor clearance.

Korbos doubled the advantage three minutes later when Masouras caught the visiting defenders napping to release Giannis Oikonomidis, who squared for Korbos to score.

Traianos Dellas’ Panaitolikos team had not even had the chance to warm up at that point and things only got worse for the team from Agrinio after 28 minutes when Durmishaj made it 3-0 by slotting in a rebound from an Oikonomidis’ shot.

There were chances at both ends in the second half as Panaitolikos tried to get back into the match, but the home side held firm to claim the three points.

Late goal earns Levadiakos draw with Larissa

Larissa were denied a third win of the season as they were held to a 1-1 draw at Levadiakos.

Alexandre Coeff opened the scoring for the visitors after 13 minutes and it seemed that all three points were heading the visitors’ way.

But Fotis Ioannidis rifled the ball home after a goalmouth scramble with eight minutes left to salvage a point for the home side.
