Record-breaking Atromitos see off Xanthi to stay on top

Atromitos’ unstoppable form continued on Sunday with an impressive 2-0 away win at Xanthi which kept Damir Canadi’s team top of the SuperLeague standings with 19 points from nine games.

In what is the unbeaten Peristeri club’s best top flight start in the team’s history, another three-point haul was secured courtesy of goals from Egypt midfielder Amr Warda and French forward Nicolas Diguiny.

Warda opened the scoring after 41 minutes with a clinical shot from inside the penalty area, with Diguiny rubber-stamping the victory with a close-range finish from a Dimitris Giannoulis corner with seven minutes left.

There was little in the way of a goal threat offered by Xanthi, who once again looked a shadow of the side that spent long spells last season battling for the title, while Atromitos have not conceded a goal for seven matches in a row.
