Relegation still on the cards for Aris, PAOK 

With six rounds of action left in the regular season of the Greek Basket League, relegation is still on the cards for the likes of Thessaloniki rivals Aris and PAOK.

The 2019/2020 season has been a challenging campaign for two of Greek basketball’s biggest clubs. Difficult times financially off the court has made the current campaign a rocky one on the court for two of the top-tier’s more traditional sides.

Aris and PAOK have struggled to find their feet in the Basket League in 2019/2020 and as the regular season approaches the final rounds of action both clubs remain at risk of finishing the campaign in the relegation zone.

PAOK currently sit at the foot of the table with a 5-15 record thus far, just one game behind the likes of crosstown rivals Aris and Panionios both of which own 6-14 records through 20 rounds of action.

With two sides set to be relegated at the end of the season, time is quickly running out for clubs to avoid what would be a disastrous drop to the second tier.

Although PAOK are behind the pace set by the likes of Aris and Panionios, one benefit for the Dikefalos tou Vorra is that they still have a meeting with Panionios on the horizon with a win by more than 10 points required to wrestle the tiebreaker from the Kyanerythri. 

PAOK could also benefit from Panionios’ meeting with Aris just a week later. Aris will need to beat Panionios by 7 points or more in order to take control of the tiebreaker after suffering an 86-80 defeat to Panionios in Thessaloniki back in December.
