Reports suggest empty stadiums until coronavirus vaccine

Recent reports from SDNA have suggested that no fans will be allowed to attend matches in Greece until a vaccine for the coronavirus is found.

Starting from May 4, the Hellenic state will begin the gradual relaxation of strict social measures aimed at combating the spread of COVID-19, but it seems that no fans will be attending sporting events for quite some time yet. It has already effectively been confirmed that the 2019/2020 Super League playoffs and playouts will be played behind closed doors if the government issues the green light for sport to resume in June.

A report published by SDNA earlier this week has predicted that supporters won’t be granted entry to stadiums until a vaccine against the coronavirus is found. However, according to several medical organisations across the world, the vaccine won’t be available to the public until at least midway through 2021.

Deputy Minister of Culture and Sport, Lefteris Avgenakis, reportedly revealed the decision when speaking during an online conference.

Avgenakis subsequently confirmed that all Super League teams can resume training from May 5 with groups between six and eight players.

The majority of Super League clubs are in favour of the 2019/2020 campaign resuming. All indications are pointing towards a June restart.
