The 19-year old Greece international, who transferred to Bayer Leverkusen from Olympiacos in August 2017 for 17.5 million euros, has impressed in Germany with his notable talent. Amazingly, his marker in the victory over Leipzig on Monday was the centre-back’s first ever competitive goal in his career.

With the score 2:1 in Leverkusen’s favour, a deflected free-kick dropped at the feet of the lurking Retsos inside the penalty area, who arrowed an instant attempt low into the far left corner. Bayer Leverkusen went on to comfortably win the match 4:1 against Leipzig, with the club occupying fourth place of the Bundesliga table with 48 points.

Retsos began the match on the substitutes’ bench, but he joined the action after just 19 minutes when Lars Bender received an injury. Having failed to score during his time in Piraeus with Olympiacos, it’s a moment which Retsos will never forget.
