Tyrese Rice etched his name in Eternal Derby lore for Panathinaikos after his first-ever derby showdown against Olympiacos saw the American guard notch a game-high 41 points in a 99-93 win for the Trifylli in the EuroLeague on Friday night.

Shooting 13-of-23 from the field, including 8-of-16 from three-point range, Rice helped Panathinaikos fend-off a resilient Olympiacos in overtime at the OAKA Olympic Indoor Hall.

Rice’s performance now ranks as the most points all-time in a European meeting between the Eternal Rivals, beating the previous record of 33 points set by the late Alphonso Ford for Olympiacos in 2002.

The previous best for a Panathinaikos player in European editions of the Eternal Derby was set by Alexander Volkov when the Russian big man tallied 32 points in the 1995 Final Four showdown between the two sides in Tel Aviv.

Rice’s 41-point showing ranks second all-time for most points in a EuroLeague game after Anadolu Efes guard Shane Larkin set a new record with a 49-point performance against Bayern Munich last week.
