The final of the Greek Cup won’t take place at the Olympic Stadium for the first time since 2017. On Wednesday, the EPO formalised the decision to stage the final of the competition between AEK and Olympiacos in Rizoupoli, with the match set to be held on July 26:

“The unanimous suggestion by the Organising Committee to hold the 2019/2020 Greek Cup final in Rizoupoli on July 26 has been accepted.”

The match will begin at 21:00 local time.

Olympiacos had previously expressed their anger at the possibility of the game being played at the Georgios Kamaras Stadium. The venue is situated near to Nea Filadelfeia.

Interestingly, Olympiacos suggested that the Karaiskakis Stadium or the Kleanthis Vikelidis Stadium should be used for the final, but both options were rejected. The Georgios Kamaras Stadium in Rizoupoli is owned by Apollon Smyrnis.

In 2016, AEK and Olympiacos met in the showpiece match of the Greek Cup at the OAKA, a match which ended 2-1 in favour of the Kitrinomavri.

Having produced a stunning comeback, AEK advanced to the final with a 4-3 aggregate triumph over Aris in the semi-final, while Olympiacos overpowered PAOK in Piraeus to progress with a 4-3 victory over the course of the two games. This is the fourth consecutive year in which AEK have qualified for the Greek Cup final.
