Rui Fonte supposedly set to join Olympiacos on loan

According to reports, Portuguese forward Rui Fonte is close to joining Olympiacos on loan from Fulham, with the player supposedly in Greece ahead of completing the transfer.

In Portugal, various media organisations have published stories suggesting that Rui Fonte, a 28-year old attacker who currently plays for Fulham in England, made the trip to Greece and is about to join Olympiacos on a one-year loan deal for the 2018/2019 season. 

Olympiacos will pay a share of Fonte’s wages alongside Fulham and his loan to the Piraeus club is expected to be completed over the weekend. Being Portuguese himself, Olympiacos boss Pedro Martins is aware of the forward’s abilities and is eager to add Fonte to his squad in order to increase competition within the team even further.

Capable of playing either as a striker or a winger on the flanks, Fonte has been somewhat of a journeyman during his career so far, representing Arsenal, Crystal Palace, Sporting Lisbon, Vitória Setúbal, Espanyol, Benfica, Belenenses, Braga and Fulham in just a ten-year period. In the 2017/2018 campaign, he participated in 27 English Championship matches with Fulham, registering three goals and five assists. On Transfermarkt, his value is rated at six million euros.
