Savvidis, who owns PAOK Football Club, has decided to save the basketball club from the brink of disaster. According to the latest reports, Savvidis has promised to cover all of the debts currently owed by PAOK BC, and this will mean that the Dikefalos tou Vorra will be able to compete in the 2019/2020 Basket League and Basketball Champions League. Rumours had previously suggested that PAOK would withdraw from both competitions amid financial ruin.

Towards the end of the previous season, PAOK BC ran into serious difficulties, as several senior players refused to play in the Basket League playoffs after not receiving their wages. All foreigners have since left the club.

The new developments could mean that Vangelis Margaritis and Stavros Schizas remain at PAOK. The management will also try to keep Linos Chrysikopoulos in Thessaloniki, but if media reports are to be believed, the 26-year-old is involved in advanced negotiations with AEK.

PAOK were knocked out in the Round of 16 of the 2018/2019 Basketball Champions League, while reaching the Greek Cup final and losing to Promitheas in the first round of the Basket League playoffs.
