With Angelos Anastasiadis leaving, the Hellenic Football Federation (EPO) is searching for a new head coach for the senior Greek national team, as candidates from both Greece and abroad are being considered.

On Monday, EPO president Evangelos Grammenos held a meeting with Anastasiadis, in which the latter was reportedly informed that he will not continue as the head coach of the Greek national team. As yet, the EPO is yet to confirm the development, but that will happen once a compensation fee has been finalised for the termination of Anastasiadis’ contract. After receiving the job in October 2018, Anastasiadis managed seven matches at the Ethniki Omada helm, tallying two victories, one draw and four defeats.

The EPO is continuing to search for adequate replacements. At the moment, Traianos Dellas and Marinos Ouzounidis are the only two Greeks in the running for the vacancy, and the EPO seems to be in favour of appointing a foreign specialist.

Manolo Jimenez, who has managed AEK FC in three separate spells, is among the foreign candidates. Taking into account that Jimenez has excellent knowledge of the Greek game, he would be seen by some as an ideal candidate, and the 55-year-old Spaniard is currently unemployed after he was dismissed by AEK upon the completion of the 2018/2019 season. Jimenez had won the Super League and Greek Cup as AEK manager in the past.

Domingos Paciencia (Portugal), Giuseppe Iachini (Italy) and Luigi Di Biagio (Italy) have all been linked with the role of Greek national team head coach since the disappointing defeats to Italy and Armenia in UEFA Euro 2020 qualifying.

Greece will return to competitive action in September as the European Championship qualifying campaign approaches its decisive stage. The Ethniki Omada languish in fourth place of Group J with four points from four matches.
